1. Introduction to uBlanket


What does uBlanket Do?

We use your memorable shirts to make a one-of- a-kind blanket. We make the process incredibly simple and fun for you. All you have to do is send us your shirts and then use our online blanket design tool to layout your blanket. We take care of all the cutting, sewing, and shipping. In a few weeks, you can go from a closet full of unworn, but loved shirts, to an incredibly personal and unique blanket. See some blankets we’ve recently made.

Second, we use the leftover sections of the shirts to make the same quality blankets to donate to the homeless.


How Does the Process Work?

We strive to make the whole blanket process as easy and fun as possible.
Here are the steps:

  1. Step 1 - Place an order online, and we mail you a Welcome Kit.
  2. Step 2 - Your Welcome Kit arrives containing instructions and a pre-paid UPS shipping bag which you use to send us your shirts. See the types of shirts you can send.
  3. Step 3 - After we receive your shirts, you’ll get an email with a special link that enables you to view your shirts online and use our blanket builder tool to design the blanket right from your computer.

  4. Step 4 – We create your blanket according to your design. We have all the tools, machines, and expertise to make you an absolutely beautiful blanket that will last for years.



How long does it take?

After you design your blanket online, we typically sew and ship it within 7-10 business days. However, shipping time plays a big part in how quickly your blanket is completed. Please see the map below to estimate how much time will be required for shipping.



What makes uBlanket different?

First, we let you easily design your blanket online using our patent pending blanket design website. Our competitors require you to choose how you want your shirts laid out before you mail them. That means you need to arrange and re-arrange them on the floor in order to get an idea how your design works. Second, we use the leftover sections of the shirts to make the same quality blankets to donate to the homeless.


2. Pricing, Options, and Ordering


What styles do you offer?

We have a number of different blanket options for you to choose from. The pricing is as follows:

  • Border + Sashing ($249)

Can I order as a gift?

A uBlanket makes a great gift, and we want to make the process as easy as possible. When having a uBlanket made as a gift, the main decision to be made is who will choose the shirts and create the design.

  1. If YOU will be choosing the shirts and design – We suggest ordering the blanket as if it were for yourself, then wrapping up the completed blanket as the gift.
  2. If THEY will be choosing the shirts and design – We suggest ordering the blanket, and then wrapping up the welcome kit that comes in the mail. The receiver will unwrap to find full color instructions for getting the process started. If you and the gift receiver are far apart, we can always ship directly to them.

What are the dimensions of a blanket?

  1. i. Our blankets are approximately 60”x75”. This is a very comfortable size, whether it’s on a couch, a bed, or hanging on the wall, it will fit perfectly.
  2. Each square of the blanket is called a panel.
    1. For a standard blanket the panel size is 15”x15”
    2. For a blanket with a border or sashing the panel size is 13” x 13”.

How do I check order status?

You should have received an email from us with a link to your personal order status page. If you can’t find the email Click Here and we can send the link again.


Do I pay for the blanket when I place my order?

Yes, this avoids having to delay shipment for final payment, as well as excessive credit card fees for multiple transactions. If this is cause for concern, please email us to discuss.


Can You Do Custom Panels?

We are more than happy to accommodate nearly any custom request. A few examples of things we have done are shown below. We charge a flat $15 fee for each custom panel added to a blanket. We will work with you via email/phone to determine exactly how you want the custom panel to look. You will then receive an email from us with a picture of the custom panel. Once you’re happy, we will add it to the overall blanket design. Any additional charges will be payable via the order status page.


How does the blanket builder tool work?

Once we receive your shirts, you’ll get an email from us letting you know its time to design the blanket. You can then crop and arrange each shirt on the blanket and choose fabric colors. Once finished, you can view your completed blanket online. You’ll be able to see exactly how it will look and make sure it’s perfect before we cut even a single shirt. Once you approve it, we’ll immediately begin crafting your blanket.

3. Shipping


How Much Does shipping Cost?

We offer free shipping for all orders to the US. Including Puerto Rico.


What if I need my order in a hurry?

We have two options available to help speed up the process.

  1. Expedited Processing – We can make sure that your blanket goes into the sewing shop the next day after you design it. This option will typically save about 1 week off our two-week processing time.
  2. Expedited Processing & Shipping – YYou get your blanket made as quickly as above, but we will also overnight ship the completed blanket to you. If you live on the west coast this option will save you 2 weeks. Please don’t choose this option if you live in DE,NY,NJ,MD,OH, or PA, you get overnight shipping automatically since you’re so close.

Can you deliver blankets Internationally?

We have sent blankets all over the world! For overseas orders we exclusively use paypal to avoid the headaches of international credit card transactions. Please email us with your contact information (Full Name, Telephone, Email, and Shipping Address) and we will build your order manually in our system. We will request payment via paypal and then you’ll be able to proceed as normal. For simplicity, we will include the actual shipping charges in our paypal request.


4. About the Blankets


How are the blankets constructed?

Each uBlanket is made from three parts. The front is, of course, your shirts, the back is a soft sweatshirt fleece and in the middle we use an unstretchable batting material to make sure the blanket is incredibly sturdy.


Can I choose my backing and border colors?

You can choose the backing color. We offer five options – charcoal gray, heather gray, red, navy blue, and pink. For the border and sashing we use a heather gray sweatshirt material. The heather gray goes well with any shirt color, so its guaranteed not to clash with other colors on the blanket. If you are certain that you want another color border or sashing please email us.


Do You Quilt your Blankets?

We fully quilt every blanket, this ensures that it looks great and will be very durable. Quilting the blanket is the last step in our process, it’s the stitching that connects the front middle and back layers of the blanket together. Often times cheap blankets will be made with minimal or no quilting stitches – this causes the layers of fabric to shift around and will eventually lead to the blanket falling apart. We quilt all the way around, EVERY shirt. We also hide our quilting, by “stitching-in-the-ditch”. This means that your favorite shirt won’t have stitching running right through the middle of it.


Are your materials of a high quality?

We use only the highest quality materials made in the USA. We use Quilter’s Dream™ batting, made in Virginia, exclusively. Our sewing facilities are located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. We only work with American companies and suppliers.


How Do I wash my Blanket?

Your blanket is very sturdy and will stand up to your washing machine. However, because your blanket may have shirts of different colors, it’s possible that they could run. So, we recommend that you dry-clean the blanket to avoid having colors run together.


5. About the Shirts


How Many Shirts do I Need?

You’ll need between 10-20. Each blanket has 20 panels, so if you used the front and back of every shirt, you’ll only need 10 shirts. Sending more than 10 lets you choose only the interesting sides of your shirts. You can send us extras, if they’re not used in your design we will return them at no cost.


What Types of shirts can I send?

We have done IT ALL! We have a method to make nearly any shirt you can think of work perfectly on a blanket. Regular t-shirts, tank tops, button-downs, jerseys, polo’s, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc… if you wondering if we can do it the answer is almost certainly yes, but please don’t hesitate to ask.



What Happens to my Extra Shirts?

We send shirts that aren’t used at all back to you at no charge. We use the extra scraps from half used shirts to make children’s donation blankets.


Should I wash my shirts before sending?

Yes, we very much appreciate having clean clothing to work with. In addition, its good practice to make sure that the shirts have been washed a few times so their colors are less likely to run if you wash the completed blanket.


Can I cut my shirts ahead of time?

Please DO NOT CUT your shirts ahead of time. We have special tools that cut perfect squares every time. If you have already cut your shirts please measure them and then email us so we discuss whether they will work.
